Seven of the rooms have en-suite facilities and one single has its own separate shower room and toilet. The rooms are exceedingly well maintained and extremely clean.

The beds are firm, the ceilings are high, and the walls quite thick, as you would expect of a property which dates back to the first part of the 19th century. Whether it's the freshness of the sea breeze, or the firmness of the beds, guests always feel refreshed and relaxed after a stay with Sue and David. The Lodge was in fact built before Darwin sailed from Plymouth to discover the Galapagos Islands leading to the theory of evolution, and is mentioned in the 1841 census.

Rainbow Lodge, Plymouth Prices are per room per night, and the longer you stay at Rainbow Lodge, the cheaper it gets! If you are on a tight budget, you can even get room only rates, and keep costs down by not having breakfast.

At the Lodge you get a great choice of breakfast menu. You can have a full English breakfast made with good fresh local produce, or a very tasty Continental breakfast. There's even a special Detox breakfast with a healthy range of fruit and nuts to make your day delicious right from the start. Plus there is also a fine selection of cereals and fresh fruit to start your breakfast, and lashings of piping hot fresh coffee, and a selection of teas.

Travelling to and from the guest house is very easy. There is free private parking for all guests, and local bus, coach and train services are excellent. The airport is only four miles away, and there are also ferry terminals just a short walk away.

For walkers the area around Plymouth is fantastic. Described as one of the best walks in the country, the South West Coastal Path is just superb. Stretching six hundred and thirty miles from Minehead to Poole it is dramatic and beautiful, with wildlife, surfers and endless stunning panoramic views.

There are lots of things to discover from Heritage Sites to Wildlife Sanctuaries, and plenty of good fresh clean air. The path is very well indicated and easy to follow, and even first time walkers will find it a real joy.

There are very few steep sections near Plymouth, so the going is very easy for the uninitiated, plus you can break your walk down into bite-sized bits of three to six miles if you want to. You'll get plenty of chances to get to the lovely beaches and quaint seaside villages you pass, and there are lots of free car parks all along the route. The great thing about staying at Rainbow Lodge is that the path for the walk is only a few yards from the front door.

If you are an experienced walker aiming to complete a longer distance in the South Hams area, you will probably cross one or more river mouths on your journey. Whilst larger estuaries like the Tamar, Cattewater (R.Plym), Dartmouth Harbour and the Kingsbridge have year round ferries, please bear in mind that smaller estuaries have ferries that operate only in summer and one – the River Erme – has no ferry at all. In these cases detours by foot or by taxi may therefore be needed to complete your trip.

We belong to the South West Coast Path Association and can easily access more information if required whilst you are with us or before you arrive.
